One-armed snake discovered in China

The 66-year-old Duan Qiongxiu from China woke up when she heard a strange scratching sound; it was then that she discovered the mutant snake crawling along the wall using its claw. Duan said, "I turned on the light and saw this monster working its way along the wall."

terrified Duan, picked up her shoe and hammered the snake to death, after which she picked up its body and preserved it in a bottle of alcohol.

The snake had a claw complete with four clawed toes on its stomach. It measured 16 inches in length and its body is now being studied to find causes for the mutation at the Life Sciences Department at China's West Normal University in Nanchang. “It is truly shocking, but we won't know the cause until we've conducted an autopsy," said Long Shuai, a snake expert at the department.
