Unmanned automated metro opens in Dubai

On Friday, two days after the official launch, 30,000 people showed up within the first two hours of the 2pm opening, causing chaos at the stations.

The Dubai metro that opened to the public last Thursday was dogged by delays and large crowds over the weekend but that did not deter 38,841 passengers who took to the rails on Sunday, The National newspaper wrote.

Hundreds of people queued up on Friday evening to take the Metro from the Mall of the Emirates station, where there were scenes of pushing and shoving as passengers grew impatient.

It takes a train about 63 minutes to run from one end station to the other.
